Motif Birthday Wishes

I made this card a while back as a birthday card for a good friend and downline member. Forgot to post it way back when, so here it is today! Her favorite thing is flourishes – so I had to be sure to get a flourish image in the card.

ALY'S HELPFUL HINTS:

• This unique layout came from an old Stampin' Up! Catalog and I changed up the colors, images, etc. Whenever I hit a mental road block with design work, I love pulling out old catalogs to get a layout. If I can start with a layout as the foundation, the rest comes!
• Regal Rose, Sahara Sand and Very Vanilla make up this subtle but rich color combination.
• The pearl at the bottom of the twill tape as a touch of bling to the card without pulling in glitter. Both the pearl from the pretties kit and this width of Twill Tape will be retiring from this catalog on June 30th – be sure to order them while you still can!
• For even faux stitch spacing as shown around this card, pull out the Mat Pack and Paper Piercer!

Happy Birthday to Mom!

Finally!! I can share my mom's Birthday gift with all of you!!! Her Birthday is the same as mine, January 17th, but our family Birthday party just kept getting pushed back and back, finally we got together yesterday to celebrate January & February Birthdays so she's received it and I can share it!

ALY'S HELPFUL HINTS:

• This set is ALL about vintage stamping!! Shelli gave a Vintage Stamping Presentation and Leadership and I fell in love… ever since, I've been ALL over it! In fact, I'm going to be teaching a Vintage Stamping & Stencils Class as part of our Spring Retreat in April!
• The thing I've been using most in my vintage stamping is the "Color Spritzer Tool" and a Chocolate Chip Marker. That's how I've gotten the splattered look you see here and there, see the flower pictured to the right for a sample of what I mean.
• I've also been using the heck out of the Pretties Kit with Vintage Stamping! I just love pulling in some pearls and "bling". While the Pretties Kit has some fabulous Rhinestone Brads, I've actually been using the Self-Adhesive Rhinestones in the Egg Decorating Kit right now. I just love the ease of peeling and sticking them on!
• Another great element to Vintage Stamping is creating some Shimmer Paint Mist by combining Rubbing Alcohol and Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint in a water spritzer and spritzing your cardstock or DSP with it.

Shoebox Swap for Me!

PRAY FOR GOOD WEATHER FOR US!!!! It's looking like we're going to be getting some weather when we're all trying to drive into Regonials. I'm optimistic that the weather men are either wrong or blowing things out of proportion…. And if they're not, well…. then I'm optimistic that the people who are charged with taking good care of our roads are going to be out there doing their best salting and plowing! ALY'S HELPFUL HINTS:

• This stamp set is a set from the upcoming Summer Mini Catalog! It's called "Sweet Scoops" and is a darling build-an-ice cream stamp set.
• I did the "kissing" technique for the ice cream scoop top – I stamped it in Pretty in Pink Classic Ink, then inked up the sprinkles in Rose Red and stamped the sprinkles onto the ice cream scoop stamp, into the Pretty in Pink Ink, instead of on the paper. Then stamped the image once it had both colors on it.
• The cherry was done in markers, and has Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds Glitter on it.
• The background cardstock was all done with the Scoring Blade on my Paper Cutter!

Heart Birthday

My Birthday was back on January 17th, and the best thing about birthdays in the Stamping World is handmade cards!! My mom made me this birthday card, and I just adore it!

Frosted Cupcake Birthday!

Well, the little man is doing much better on some antibiotics! Thank goodness for a good night's sleep for all! Here's to hoping today is a bit less crazy.

An update on files: Everyone who ordered the Birthday Card Class File should have received it yesterday, they all went out by the end of the night. If for some reason you didn't get it, let me know! The Scrapbooking Christmas Memories is still "in progress" and will be available as soon as possible!

Today I'm going to share with you a fun Cupcake Birthday card that I made for my mother-in-law. Can't you tell we have lots of birthdays this time of year!?

ALY'S HELPFUL HINTS:

• The "frosted" look of the frosting on top came from the Shaving Cream Tecnique!!

1. Squirt some non-gel shaving cream (such as Barbosol) onto a plate so that there's enough to cover the cardstock you're working with and that the cream is about 1" deep.
2. Put a few drops of reinker (just a few — maybe 1 drop to 1 square inch) into the shaving cream. I used Regal Rose as my reinker color.
3. Take a toothpick or other object with a point and swirl the reinker and shaving cream – be careful not to over mix, you don't want solid color!
4. Place the cardstock down into the shaving cream, press so that it touches all areas of the cardstock.
5. Pull the cardstock out and wipe off the extra shaving cream, the reinker will leave this fabulous looking cardstock print!
6. Tip: Use a Shaving Cream with Aloe Vera for a soft feel to your cardstock piece!

• This giant cupcake stamp comes with lots of text to create a thank you note on the cupcake wrapper. Omit the words by using a Stampin' Write Marker and inking just the desired lines!
• The Cherry is coated with Crystal Effects to give it a more realistic look!

Bright, Retro, Birthday Wishes!

Ooooooh, what a morning! My little guy had a very rough night last night, I took him to the doctor this morning and the poor thing has an ear infection. Needless to say my morning has been quite a busy one! My mom watches him every Monday, so today is normally my Stampin' Up! filled day, but Mommy Duties took over. But, he's hanging with Grandma now and I'm going to scramble to get things done!

• Circles, circles and more circles! The Circle Scissors Plus is how I made all of my circles. Be sure to pair this circle cutter with the Glass Mat and Dotto for best results! The Dotto is an absolute must to keep your cardstock in place.
• Be sure to use StazOn when coloring in images and applying Crystal Effects, as shown here with the Birthday Cake. It will prevent bleeding keep your image looking nice and crisp!
• Chipboard is a fabulous way to add some extra dimension! I used the ring from "Lots of Letters" to add this extra element.
