New Video: Scrapbooking and Dying Pretties Flowers!
May is National Scrapbooking Month! And in this video I'm going to do something I never do and share with you the scrapbook layouts we completed at our May Scrapbooking Class. This video also shows you how to dye Pretties Flowers in 2 different ways – enjoy!

How to Take Good Photos!
May is National Scrapbooking Month! And to celebrate, I wanted to share with you a tip on one of the things I think prevents people from scrapbooking – not having good enough photos to scrapbook!
Scrapbooking is all about preserving and cherishing our memories. And there is nothing more frustrating then going to organize your memories only to not have good photos of those special moments.
I found a great article on WikiHow on taking better photographs, and one of the tips they mentioned is something that I've found to be so true when taking photographs for my blog – make sure you set the white balance. When you take a photo, the white in your photo is your best litmus for the rest of the colors in your photo being true to color. If your white looks grey, then there isn't enough light in your photo.
The best way to keep the white balance in your photos is by taking your photos in direct sunlight whenever possible. When I'm taking photos indoors, I put my object under an Ott Light which has natural light technology in the bulbs. But even then, it's not guaranteed so I always check my white balance in Adobe Photoshop as part of my photo editing process.
Here's a great example of what I'm taking about… I took this photo of my son, Landon, about 6 months ago. He was playing in the bathtub, being a goof ball, and I wanted to capture the moment! Obviously, he was in the bathtub playing so I couldn't move him outside into natural lighting and I wasn't about to go down and grab my Ott Lite to shine on him. So this is what I was stuck with:
Our tub is white in this photo, so that is my litmus for whether the photo is true to color or not. Since the tub looks yellow, we can conclude that the White Balance is most certainly off in this photo. But I have the photos that I have, and I want to scrapbook them! So how can I make this photo usable? I'm going to edit in Adobe Photoshop by going to "Enhance" and then select "Auto Color Correction" as shown here:
After I select that… here's the photo I have!
See how the tub is now white? My White Balance has been restored, and I know I have a fabulous, perfect for scrapbooking photo!

Retirement Wishes Scrapbook
May is National Scrapbooking Month, so it's only fitting that I actually have a Scrapbook Project to share with you! My Mother in Law asked me to make a blank Scrapbook for a lady that she works with who is retiring. She wanted a poem that she had picked out to be the front page, and then wanted the book filled with minimally decorated pages that had lots of room for people to write her letters as a keepsake. The woman who was being given the book is an avid birdwatcher, so the paper and big shot die was picked out to go along with that.
As always, I have a terrible time getting good scrapbook pictures!

I’m BACK!! LOTS of Updates!
While, I'm BACK!!!! After a week and half of vacation and my computer being at the Apple Doctor, I'm BACK! Back to workable hours and back to the world of having computer access.
Bare with me as I get back into the swing of things…. I have a bazillion e-mails to catch up on, a Newsletter that is very much past due on being written, a Team Time tomorrow evening to prepare in full for, and a blog that needs some massive updating!!! I only work during Landon's Nap Time Wednesday – Friday, so my time to dedicate to getting back on track pales in comparison with all that needs to be done.

Updating My Digital Studio
Updating My Digital Studio software is easy, and it's FREE! For the initial update (version 1.0.1), simply go to the Customer Web Site and download the update from the Updates page under Our Products > Product Lines > My Digital Studio.
Note: After installing the first update from the Customer Web Site, be sure to restart your computer to complete the update process.
After you've installed this first update, you'll be able to update your software to the latest version (1.0.2) by simply clicking Help and selecting Check for Updates in the My Digital Studio software.
The Benefits of Updating
Aside from being ready to receive any future updates, there are several other benefits to updating to the most recent version of My Digital Studio including
- New Cover Guide Options – this new option (housed under the View menu) provides guides for displaying hardcover photo book cover creation.
- Updates – you'll now have a built-in update application so that you can update your software by simply clicking Help and selecting Check for Updates in My Digital Studio.

RETIRING STAMPIN' UP! COLORS ARE SELLING OUT!!!!!!!!!!

That's right! We have surpassed Stampin' Up!'s Expectations with how much we would want to stock up on Retiring Colors.
You may be asking yourself: didn't Stampin' Up! anticipate increased demand on retiring colors? The quick answer is yes, they did. The long answer is a bit more complicated. They base their forecasts for these retiring colors on historical sales information for previous color transitions, as well as current buying behaviors. Obviously, even with the most careful planning, the response to a transition of this nature can surprise everyone.
For re-inkers in retiring colors, as they run out, they will be placed on backorder status and those orders will be filled as quickly as they receive the product.
Card stock presents a bit larger problem, as the process of ordering and producing new paper from the paper mills is very involved, and they can't order significant quantities at this point in time without putting the production of the new colors in jeopardy. To help them be able to provide you with the card stock in the retiring colors for as long as possible, they will be substituting textured paper for some of the smooth colors–including card stock in 8 ½ x 11 as well as 12 x 12–where the smooth is no longer available. They realize that this is an extraordinary situation, and that this solution may not be ideal for everyone. However, they hope this will help you get the retiring colors you want for as long as possible.
SO – all of that being said, I would *highly* recommend you get your orders in NOW for retiring cardstock colors to ensure that you get the colors that you want while you still can! Some colors may retire before June 1st, and on June 1st all retiring colors will only be available while supplies last – which in most cases will be a VERY short amount of time, maybe even minutes.
